Hello Friends!

First of all I would like to thank my good friend Anurag for using his google research skills and discovering Chakrata for a weekend getaway.

Chakrata known for its mesmerizing scenery and pollution-free atmosphere is a small hill station 98 kms away from Dehradun. It is primarily a cantonment township and a heaven for trekkers and nature lovers.

Virgin forests, long walks, simple people and lots of oxygen are some of the things which make you remember this place.

We were a group of 5 friends out on a long weekend holiday. We hired a Toyota Qualis and that’s when it all begun. Our driver was a Sardarji and as soon as we boarded the vehicle we realized that there was no stereo in the car :)

Just to keep ourselves away from spoiling our mood, we decided to sing song all day long. It was about 6.45 am when we finally left and it started drizzling, giving us that extra feel of an adventurous trip ahead.

As per our initial plan we thought Chakrata would be a 7-8 hours journey, however by the time we reached there, it was 9 at night. To our bad luck we hadn’t made any hotel bookings.

After a hectic day, we were left with no option but to search for a hotel. Unfortunately all hotels and rooms were fully booked. To add to it, the mist was so dense that we could not take the risk of driving away to a nearby village. We started considering the option of sleeping inside the car.

Finally after much effort in the chilling weather we hit a stroke of luck :) . A sweet kid helped us get a one room set. He arranged bedding along with some hot snacks and coffee. To our surprise he just charged us Rs 500/- for everything.

It was a nice misty morning. We were really excited to explore the new place and woke up early. For our breakfast we had butter toast and MAGGI. Take my word; somehow Maggi tastes much tastier when you are at such places :) .

We had to vacate the room early so we decided to go to Tiger falls for search of a hotel. On our way to Tiger Falls we saw a beautifully located hotel and immediately got tempted to spend the night there. We met the hotel owner and to our dismay, the hotel was fully booked.

We decided to park our car at the hotel and trek to Tiger falls. The hotel owner warned us to properly cover ourselves as the chances of being bitten by insects were huge.

The trek was adventurous and we took various short cuts to make it more exciting and scenic, after about an hour’s walk we heard the noise of the waterfall. The noise of the roaring, gushing water made us rush towards our destination even faster.
Finally we got our first glimpse of Tiger falls. It was just awesome, worth every effort made.

The next few hours we had loads of fun, however the big question again came in front of us “where to stay”

From the locals in Chakrata we came to know that the route from Chakrata to Mussoorie is very picturesque. So we decided to head to Musoorrie.

The locals were right. The drive was very scenic and amazingly beautiful.

We reached Mussoorie at 7pm, it was dark and to our bad luck the hill station was fully booked with tourists. This time we didn’t find any luck. Finally, we decided to leave for Delhi the same night. On our way back we checked in a hotel and the next thing we realized was that we were being woken up by the knock at the door. It was 9.30am in the morning and the last call to have breakfast.

We helped ourselves with plate full of breads, muffins, fruits etc.

Overall a hectic however an adventurous & nice trip!

Would recommend everyone to once visit Chakrata , however with prior reservations .. ;)
